- Description:
- Mozilla JPEG Encoder Project
MozJPEG reduces file sizes of JPEG images while retaining quality and
compatibility with the vast majority of the world's deployed decoders.
MozJPEG is based on libjpeg-turbo. It's compatible with libjpeg API and ABI, and
can be used as a drop-in replacement for libjpeg. MozJPEG makes tradeoffs that
are intended to benefit Web use cases and focuses solely on improving encoding,
so it's best used as part of a Web encoding workflow.
MozJPEG is meant to be used as a library in graphics programs and image
processing tools. We include a demo cjpeg tool, but it's not intended for
serious use. We encourage authors of graphics programs to use MozJPEG's C API
instead.

Remove WWW entries moved into port Makefiles
Commit b7f05445c00f has added WWW entries to port Makefiles based on
WWW: lines in pkg-descr files.
This commit removes the WWW: lines of moved-over URLs from these
pkg-descr files.

Add WWW entries to port Makefiles
It has been common practice to have one or more URLs at the end of the
ports' pkg-descr files, one per line and prefixed with "WWW:". These
URLs should point at a project website or other relevant resources.
Access to these URLs required processing of the pkg-descr files, and
they have often become stale over time. If more than one such URL was
present in a pkg-descr file, only the first one was tarnsfered into
the port INDEX, but for many ports only the last line did contain the
port specific URL to further information.
There have been several proposals to make a project URL available as
a macro in the ports' Makefiles, over time.

Fix CONFLICTS entries of multiple ports
There have been lots of missing CONFLICTS_INSTALL entries, either
because conflicting ports were added without updating existing ports,
due to name changes of generated packages, due to mis-understanding
the format and semantics of the conflicts entries, or just due to
typoes in package names.
This patch is the result of a comparison of all files contained in
the official packages with each other. This comparison was based on
packages built with default options and may therefore have missed
further conflicts with optionally installed files.
Where possible, version numbers in conflicts entries have been
generalized, some times taking advantage of the fact that a port (Only the first 15 lines of the commit message are shown above ) |

Reset ports maintained by horia@racoviceanu.com.
The last change submitted or approved by Horia in Bugzilla dates back to
September 2015. Since then, all commits to his ports were landed by others
after the maintainer timeout period expired (see r383744, r405055, r405057,
r400461 and r414655, for example).
Horia did show interest in coming back after I sent a private email a few
months ago, but since nothing has changed it is better to reassign his ports
back to the heap.

MozJPEG is a fork of libjpeg-turbo with 'jpgcrush' functionality built in.
The goal is to provide a production-quality JPEG encoder that improves
compression while maintaining compatibility with the vast majority of deployed
decoders.
The 'jpgcrush' feature finds the progressive coding configuration which uses the
fewest bits. This most frequently reduces file size by 2-10%, but those are not
hard limits. Significantly greater reductions have been observed.
Library configuration defaults are the same as for libjpeg-turbo, in order to
make transitions as painless as possible. There are new configuration options
for new features, but they are not enabled by default.
The 'cjpeg' program defaults are not the same as for the equivalent program in
libjpeg-turbo. The 'cjpeg' defaults for mozjpeg are set to aggressively optimize
for smaller file sizes.
